Winter is that kind of a season: either you love it, or hate it. To most of us, winter could remind us of work and dark/cold weather. But it is actually the time when days like Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas take place! With the beginning of every new year also, we make our New Year’s resolutions and get excited about the things that the New Year will bring to us. Because of these, I think winter is a beautiful season to cherish. For all the lovers of winter&travel, we compiled this list of iconic winter cities to visit around the world. The atmosphere in these cities in winter is very unique and it is impossible not to imagine yourself wandering around the streets of these cities in winter!
Prague, Czech Republic
Prague is the capital of Czech Republic and it is definitely a must-see city of Europe. You can enjoy some Svařák (hot wine) while walking around the streets.
Reykjavík, Iceland
The capital of Iceland is a beautiful place to be during winter, you can even observe Northern Lights in this city!
Amsterdam, Netherlands
Amsterdam is Netherlands’ capital and it is so gorgeous with its canals and lovely buildings. I remember seeing the scenes of The Fault in Our Stars in this city and falling in love with it.
Paris, France
Here we have another capital city in Europe, the city of love. It is a great city to be in during winter and gaze at the scene of the Eiffel Tower and River Seine with your loved one.
Bruges, Belgium
Bruges is one of Belgium’s must-see cities – especially in winter- !
New York City, the USA
Growing up with a lot of American movies and tv shows, it is impossible not to be mesmerized by the huge buildings and colorful streets of this city.
Copenhagen, Denmark
Obviously, this list wouldn’t be complete without a city from Scandinavia. Here, we have Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark.
Hallstatt, Austria
Hallstatt is a cute small town in Upper Austria. It is definitely a good option if you want to see a place fully in a short amount of time.
London, United Kingdom
London, the capital city of England, would be an amazing option with its bright and colorful Christmas markets. You can also visit some of the most important museums in the world here.
Moscow, Russia
The capital of Russia is a literal winter wonderland. During winter, the streets of this city look even prettier. Moscow is also great for activities such as ice-skating.
Tromsø, Norway
Tromsø‘s city center is not the only mesmerizing part of it, you can actually observe one of the most magnificent natural phenomenons, northern lights here!
Vilnius, Lithuania
And lastly, we have in our list, the capital of Lithuania. This Baltic city definitely doesn’t enough recognition for how gorgeous it is, so we had to include it here.

I don’t agree with Istanbul, especially because it’s way more worth visiting when it’s warmer and greener, like in spring for example. Therefore Heidelberg and Moscow (also Strasbourg which is not on the list) are really gems to visit in the Winter period. Christmas markets in those cities are highlights of this time!
